Job description

Automation Lead @Telia

We're looking for an Automation Lead to join us at Telia.

I'm Nerijus Šarnas, leading the IT Service Management unit at Telia Lietuva, and I'm looking for someone who has actually done the work — built automation pipelines, written the code, turned messy manual processes into something that runs on its own — and is now ready to step into a dedicated leadership role and make automation a real organizational capability.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering depth and organizational influence. You won't just be building automations yourself — you'll be working with teams across ITSM to identify where automation creates the most value, shaping how we approach it, and leading a small team of engineers to make it real. If you're someone who gets curious about how things work, asks the uncomfortable questions, and drives things to completion, I'd like to talk.

What you'll do:

You will lead ITSM's automation function — owning the technical direction, working with stakeholders across the organization to identify and prioritize automation opportunities, and delivering results through your team.

  • Lead a team of automation engineers — setting direction, developing capability, and ensuring delivery
  • Work with ITSM team leads and other stakeholders to understand their processes, identify automation potential, and translate it into executable workflows
  • Design, build, and maintain automation solutions across ITSM domains — including runbook automation, operational workflows, and end-to-end process automation
  • Define and evolve automation standards, tooling choices, and engineering practices within the unit
  • Own and evolve the ITSM automation roadmap — identifying priorities, sequencing initiatives, and ensuring delivery
  • Track and communicate the impact of automation — in FTE savings, error reduction, and service quality
  • Collaborate with team leads across ITSM — network, database, applications, cloud, and operations — to scale automation coverage and reduce manual effort

What will help you thrive in this role:

You are an engineer who has built real automation — and now wants to lead others doing the same. You combine hands-on technical depth with the ability to work with people, understand their problems, and turn them into working solutions.

Must have:

  • Hands-on experience in IT automation engineering — you have written the code, built the pipelines, and seen them run in production
  • Practical knowledge of automation tooling: AWX / Ansible, Python, and similar languages and frameworks used in IT operations
  • Proven ability to take a manual IT process, understand it end-to-end, and transform it into an automated workflow
  • Experience working with stakeholders — not just engineers — to gather requirements, align on scope, and deliver automation that solves real problems
  • Ability to think broadly: you seek context before acting, ask the right questions, reason logically, and go deep when it matters
  • Result-oriented: you set clear outcomes, follow through, and measure whether the automation actually worked
  • Readiness to lead: you want to grow others, not just build things yourself
  • Fluency in Lithuanian and English

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with or influencing managers and senior stakeholders on process change and automation adoption
  • Familiarity with event-driven automation in IT operations contexts
