We are looking for a specialist based in Lithuania to join our team.

Project overview

The client has recently completed a migration to Microsoft Azure. It's now maturing the systems, migrating to SaaS / PaaS platforms and upgrading the SQL estate to remove technical debt and take advantage of the features and functions in Azure. This role will be required to lead and take ownership of the suite of changes and upgrades required.

Position overview

The Senior DBA will develop, support and manage the existing database estate and services whilst identifying and performing the range of necessary upgrades and migrations.

Responsibilities

  • Build clear plans for migration and optimising database performance incorporating forecast resource needs
  • Execution against plan, working with wider technology team, maintaining engagement with key stakeholders, project and programme management and leadership
  • Day-to-day operations of Microsoft SQL Server estate
  • Troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues.
  • Monitoring SQL server performance, respond to any database related alerts and troubleshooting and resolving any alerts and job failures occurred on MS SQL servers
  • Automation of database operations
  • Managing production releases / patching / maintenance on SQL databases
  • Maintaining database and application inventory, ensuring all licensing is accurate and up to date
  • Documenting existing environment and processes including Service Manuals, server builds and configurations
  • Contributing to the DevOps culture of automation and cloud deployments from development to production
  • Contribute to the culture of continuous improvement, self-managing teams and contribute to team’s delivery success via our Agile practice and processes
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with a range of business and technical stakeholders
  • Defining and implementing best practices for data security and retention, automating wherever possible
  • Develop and maintain SSIS for data transformations where required
  • Build and manage business reports using SSRS / Power BI


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong technical SQL DBA experience
  • Significant experience of database upgrades and migrations and the challenges likely to be faced
  • Working knowledge of Azure SQL PaaS offering
  • Experience with MS SQL 2008 up to 2019
  • Experience with backup, DR and high-availability SQL services
  • SQL capacity planning
  • DB monitoring, performance management and tuning in MS SQL
  • Experience working with Agile and Lean approaches and best practices, such as Kanban, Scrum, TDD and BDD
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and DevOps pipelines (e.g. TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, Azure DevOps)
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Strong business acumen; ability to relate, understand, grasp concepts, and interpret client/user needs
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence a variety of audiences
  • Displays a calm attitude during difficult situations
  • Self-motivated and delivery-focused, creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems
  • An ability to plan, prioritize and manage your workload
  • Work independently and think proactively to develop your skills and ideas
