Job description

Position overview

We are looking for a skilled Lead Data Designer who will be accountable for creating high-quality data designs for our Enterprise Data Warehouse. This role involves thoroughly understanding and documenting details of data sourcing, how source data will be ingested into the data platform, data mappings, and data modeling. The data designs will include defining all necessary data harmonization, calculations, derivations, and transformation logic to ensure consistency and accuracy across the data environment. Additionally, you will lead, mentor, and manage a small team of data designers, guiding them to follow the appropriate methodologies and strictly adhere to agreed data design standards and principles, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical requirements. We are looking for a specialist based in Lithuania to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document ingestions from existing sources.
  • Collaborate with Principal Data Designer to design and document ingestions from new sources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and data platform teams to create designs that meet or exceed requirements, comply with principles, with supporting documentation delivered accurately and on time.
  • Keep up to date with the data design principles and be able to explain their benefit and relevance to others.
  • Identify potential new data design principles.
  • Contribute to improvements to ways of working and documentation templates.
  • Peer review colleagues designs to ensure that they meet the requirements and conform to the agreed data design principles.
  • Ensure junior team members are following the appropriate agreed ways of working.
  • Support other workstreams by picking up additional data design work when capacity allows.
  • Support data designer recruitment and onboarding when required.
  • Supports the wider design team by considering other perspectives and constructively challenging decisions during design review sessions.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, in a style which elicits trust.
  • Manage and mentor a small team.
  • Proactively works on own development, learning about areas outside own role.
  • Provides guidance for others to develop themselves.


Requirements

  • Advanced Data modelling for enterprise data warehouses.
  • Works with existing network to expand knowledge.
  • Gathers and documents relevant documentation beyond guidance.
  • Understands deliverables and analyses available information and makes sound decisions in an uncertain environment.
  • Works collaboratively in agile development process.
  • Engages with key stakeholders inside and outside of own area and experts in the wider team to make good design decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail.


Nice to have

  • Querying and transforming data using SQL, Python / PySpark.
  • Conducting detailed data profiling and analysis.
  • Modelling data into a complex facts and dimensions, identifying suitable mappings, aggregations and snapshot tables where appropriate.
  • Identifying complex data quality rules, considering alternative sources and volumetric analysis.
