Job description:

The main goal of this role is to support the activity of the GBS from a tax perspective. To include assistance and the review of tax accounting and compliance tasks with particular focus on VAT compliance, preparation/review of VAT returns for local country submissions. The Tax Manager will also support the group’s head office recharge processes and other transfer pricing related matters working closely with the tax team in Reading, UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and/or reviews the VAT returns using accounting software and underlying tax accounting data.
  • Problem solves and assists other staff when VAT returns show erroneous or unexpected calculations of VAT.
  • Stays up to date with the European VAT landscape and regulation updates which might have implications for GBS prepared VAT returns.
  • Acts as a contact/liaison point between GBS and local countries for whom VAT returns are being prepared and assists with any queries they may have.
  • Keeps the BMI Group Tax Senior Manager, VAT informed of any issues that arise with respect to VAT compliance and/or unexpected VAT liabilities.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements with respect to the VAT compliance cycle and looks for improvements to automate using technology where possible.
  • Works with the GPO Tax Process Export to ensure the VAT compliance cycle is documented with process maps to provide an audit trail of the return preparation tasks.
  • Assists with the tax aspects of the management of key intra-group transactions e.g. Commercial Franchise Fee, HQ fees, CoE fees, royalties providing inputs into budgets, half year reviews, post year end true up process.
  • Assists with New Transactional Model reviews from a tax perspective e.g. assessment cycle and true ups.
  • Improves processes via implementation of automation utilizing technology.
  • Assists with documentation preparation & review to ensure adequate defense files with respect to intra-group transactions are retained.
  • Works with key functions to ensure maintenance of evidence files of functions and benefits provided to support intra-group charges.
  • Supports functional interviews of key functions as required e.g. meeting minutes.
  • Assists with documentation collation and supporting analysis to help defend external tax authority audits.


Requirements:

  • Experience in a Finance/ Tax Accounting or Tax-related role.
  • VAT experience.
  • Proficiency in communication in English, both written and spoken.
  • Proactiveness, good communication skills, flexibility, and willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of SAP would be considered as an advantage.
